Multiplatform

The modern approach to news consumption is decentralized. Viewers aren’t finding their news from one single organization or one particular platform. Instead, content is appearing where people already are. I adapt content for a multifaceted approach to news distribution, since a storytelling structure for one particular medium won’t necessarily be as successful for another.

Example: Town Manager investigated for financial crimes

The town manager of Cary, North Carolina was put on paid administrative leave with initially no explanation from town leadership. An investigation I did for WRAL uncovered evidence of financial mismanagement. I cultivated my reporting for different media. The result: millions of viewers across platforms, who then made their way to WRAL’s website and TV channel.

Example: Charlotte-based airline crew killed in mid-flight crash

An absolutely devastating situation in which everyone aboard an American Airlines flight was killed when their plane intercepted a Blackhawk helicopter as it was approaching D.C.’s Reagan National airport. I told the story of who the flight attendants were across WRAL’s social media platforms.

Example: Mother surprises son with the return of his brother from the hospital

A sweet story I initially found on TikTok, in which a mother surprised her son with his brother after he had spent several weeks in the hospital. I made sure the local family in the viral video was introduced to our broadcast viewers as well.
